Il Vivaldi is a restaurant founded in 2017, throughout the renovation of an old house known in the city as - “Casa do Turista” - one of the most ancient souvenir and handicraft shops in Funchal.
The house was remodeled keeping its architecture and historical details. The goal was to give it a new life. It now hosts a new set of restaurants with a diversity of food concepts. A fine cuisine restaurant in the main room; a steakhouse in the first floor and a piano bar at the terrace. The idea was to offer exquisite local food and a very welcoming experience with high quality classic standards.
The name itself and all its decoration were inspired in the Vivaldi baroque times and classical music. We took that same inspiration for all the branding elements created and design to present this venue.
The key focus was to come up with a visual identity that would communicate this classical style and express contemporary/modern aspects at the same time. Challenging enough to also convey the individual identity of each venue in the house and to have them all under the same roof (visually speaking as well).
Being inspired by the classical music instruments (the violin itself), we have created a bespoke lettering wordmark to represent the classic baroque times, combined with this unique and detailed visual element that was easily identified in the house floor tiles. This floral/ geometric icon is also known as a local architecture traditional element.
The branding project incorporates the visual identity for the main house and, also, a collection of visual identity elements for each different venue, followed by a series of collaterals including: color palette, typography set; signage; and a set of menus. All carefully created for each restaurant dynamics.
We were also motivated by the set of colours used to decorate each venue and rooms, adding this touch of colour set to each venue design.
